Letter to Taji (Marji's mother)
Dear Taji,
After reading through the memoir that your daughter has written, I just want to thank you for raising Marji to stand up for what she believes in. Instead of conforming to all of the things going on, you fought for change. In the beginning of Marji's memoir, she talked about how you were at the demonstration where everyone on the streets were arguing for and against the veil. A German journalist had taken a photo of you at the demonstration and when Marji had seen the photo she said that she was "really proud of you (5)." You have set an example for her and risked everything because you knew what you fought for and believed in was right. You knew that there could be so many consequences and you risked your safety which I believe makes you brave. Marji also talked about how you tried to teach the maid how to read (35). Your kindness to those who aren't of the same social class doesn't go unnoticed. When Marji wanted to get revenge on Ramin because his father had killed a million people, you told her that "it is not for you and me to do justice. I'd even say we have to learn to forgive (46)." You taught her about forgiveness and she ended up forgiving him and telling herself that she had a feeling of being someone really, really good (46)." Forgiveness is such an important thing that young children should learn because of all the evil going on in the world. As I continue to read this memoir, I hope to learn more about you and your life. It's been an interesting journey getting a glimpse of everything that is going on.
